I thought I"d make an entry in English today. It"s been a while, hasn"t it?

Many people often ask me how I learned Japanese. I studied for 4 years in university in the US.

But when I came to Japan...I really couldn"t speak Japanese. I could have a basic conversation, but complex conversations were difficult for me.

So I spent a lot of time studying here in Japan.

I would go outside and listen to conversations in public. If I didn"t know a word, I would look it up.

I remember one of the first words I had troubles with was やばい. It has many meanings, so I was confused.

Now I have been in Japan a long time, and can speak Japanese reasonably well.

But I"m not perfect yet! I still make mistakes, and I have many things to learn.

I think many people want to go overseas, but worry that they can"t speak English.

Don"t worry about that!

Even if you study for many years, it may be difficult to understand at first. While you are overseas, you will have many opportunities to learn.

Don"t let language concerns stop you from visiting new places!
